“Let’s go surfin’ now, everybody’s learning how…” Some of you may immediately recognize those as Beach Boys lyrics. Would you believe it if I told you that a Beach Boys album was actually the first CD that I owned? Granted it was some sort of a greatest hits compilation disc and I’m sure it didn’t match the quality of the original LP ;)
But seriously friends, have you caught the wave yet? I hope you could tell I was a little excited preaching the last two Sundays about the impact that the gospel has in people’s lives not only around the world but also in our own neighborhoods.
This Sunday is another opportunity where I hope you can also catch the wave of the gospel. Vicar Joe will be helping us see the joy a person’s life changed by Jesus (see Acts 3:1-10). He’s going to help us see how each of us has a story of life change too. Never underestimate what God can do for others through your own personal story of God’s redemptive grace either. I dream of a day when stories of life change are a regular part of the conversation that occurs when people mention Victory of the Lamb church in Franklin!
But that’s not the only reason I hope to see you Sunday. This Sunday is also our Path to Victory commitment Sunday. Have you prayerfully considered how you and your family will be part of our appeal? Have you carved out time to ask Jesus for his blessing on our church that we might bring Him glory, honor, and praise in all our future efforts? Have you asked the Lord of life to use all that you are and all that you have to help share His victory and His love? No worries though. If you haven’t, there’s still time yet. There’s always still time…well, so long as God chooses to extend our earthly lives anyway. But that’s one of the wonderful things about our generous God who gives us life and breath and time and grace and everything else. He’s a giver through and through. He gives us an open invitation to pray with the promise that he will hear.
So even if you’re in a season of life right now where you’re not able to participate financially in the Path to Victory appeal, please don’t shrug off the fact that God hears your prayers for Jesus’ sake. This whole process really isn’t all about money. It’s about ministry. It’s about ultimately reaching more people. And your prayers matter. Of course the All-sufficient God doesn’t need your prayers, but we do. Our church does. All our future plans are wholly insufficient without God’s blessing. We want to share Christ’s victory with today’s people for generations to come. To do that I’d rather have one GOD idea prayerfully blessed than a hundred other GOOD ideas that miss the mark because we didn’t seek God’s will to the glory of his name.
So one and all, pray and come this Sunday! Let’s go surfin’ now, everybody’s learning how… come catch the wave of the gospel! Then we’ll have a special part of the service where you’ll have an opportunity to put your commitment card in the offering basket and we’ll pray about it and ask God’s blessings on our future together. A couple weeks later, on June 9th, we'll then have a special celebration Sunday to thank God for the prayerfully considered pledges of His people. And please know, above all know, that “if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have” (2 Corinthians 8:12).
Sharing Christ’s Victory,
