Jesus, Friend of Sinners

Hello Friends,

Q: How many people does it take to… bring someone to Jesus?

Almost sounds like the lead-in to a joke, doesn’t it?

But it wasn’t a joke for the man lying flat on his back.

A: 4

At least that’s how many friends it took for the man we’re going to meet Sunday as we read an awesome story found in Luke 5:17-26. It took literally four determined friends, who were willing to do whatever it took, to bring him to Jesus. And that meeting with Jesus changed his life—forever.

Is there anyone you can help bring to Jesus this week by inviting them to church?

This Sunday we start a new series called Jesus, Friend of Sinners. It’s the perfect time to bring someone to church with you. Jesus once said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” He said, “The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Well that’s us...all of us…when God helps us see just what our most serious need and problem is.

During this series we will watch Jesus as he interacts with “sinners.” What’s amazing is how easily we can relate to each of these sinners, how his or her struggle is so often ours as well. But what’s even more amazing is what Jesus’ interaction with each of these sinners reveals to us about God’s love and grace in our own lives!

So think now about who you might invite. Say a prayer that God would give you the determination and the courage to ask them to join you. Perhaps offer to pick them up and give them a ride. Maybe take them out with you for brunch afterwards. What will it take to bring them to meet Jesus?
