Victory News - A Couple Big Things

Hello Friends,

This Sunday as a church family we’ll be continuing our summer series Good Questions – Honest Answers as we learn from a paradigm shifting story that Jesus once told. I look forward to helping you all see what a joy it is to be able to go home justified!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF A COUPLE BIG THINGS:

Building Design Task Force Presentation Next Sunday, August 3rd – At 8:09 am in theater #1 we will have a 45 minute session in which we, along with our architects from Korb-Tredo, will present our church site plan and designs up to this point. This will take the place of our regular Bible study before church next Sunday. There will be handouts available for you to take home as well. All are welcome to attend. In addition to the presentation before church, we will have a shortened service (ending at 10 am) after which we will have a secondary presentation that will last about 20 minutes for those who can’t make it early next Sunday.

Please make every effort to attend this exciting meeting about our church’s future as we look forward to being able to share Christ’s victory with more people for many years down the road!

This Sunday is a Bible Quest “Sabbath” Day – This means we want to honor all our hard working volunteers throughout the year with a day of rest. Well, maybe it won’t exactly be a day of rest since we’re inviting all the kids to worship with the adults in theater #1! But we will certainly have a unique opportunity to all be together as a church family and celebrate the blessings God has given to our multi-generational church. We will have the area set up in the lobby for you to take your kids if you feel they’re getting a bit too rowdy. We’ll have the service streaming on the TV over by the cafĂ© as well.

Call to Hope – As I mentioned last week I’ve been given the opportunity to deliberate a Call to Hope Lutheran Church in Toronto, Ontario which is in a neighborhood that is ground zero for immigration in Canada in a city that is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. I’m still in the process of gathering information about Hope and getting input from people. This is a time to evaluate things from the perspective of life and ministry as well as an opportunity to stand in awe of God and thank him for his many blessings that I see evident in so many areas of my life. Thank you also for your prayers and words of advice / encouragement. My family and I are incredibly grateful to have a supportive church family. Please do feel free to contact me via email, txt, or whatever.

New “Mix and March” Bible 101 — on Tuesday evenings (from 6:30-8:00 pm) and/or Saturday mornings (from 10-11:30 am) starting Tuesday August 12th and Saturday August 16th. For more info contact me or register online using this brief form.  If you intend to participate in this upcoming class please take a moment to register online. I am eagerly hoping to see a lot of you join this group.

Sermon Resources from last Sunday can be found here on our website. Think about who needs to hear the message of Jesus their Savior!

My VotL – On our new church website we’ve changed what used to be called the “Online Community” to “My VotL”. This is still our web based church database and directory. Please be reminded to upload a current picture of yourself and keep your contact info up to date. You will find the link to My VotL at top of our website homepage.

Victory News!

It takes some nerve for a man to claim to be God. How would you answer if someone asked you the question, “Why do you believe Jesus is God?” That’s the next question I’ll try and help you answer this coming Sunday as we continue our series Good Questions – Honest Answers. I look forward to seeing you!

Building Design Task Force Presentation on Sunday August 3rd, at 8:09 am in theater #1 we will have a 45 minute session in which we, along with our architects from Korb-Tredo, will present our church site plan and designs up to this point. This will take the place of our regular Bible study before church that Sunday. There will be handouts available for you to take home as well. All are welcome to attend. We will also shorten the length of that Sunday’s worship service a little bit to have a secondary presentation for those who aren’t able to come early. Right now we are working on a plan for ongoing communication via our website and other means also after August 3rd.

Things Moving and Shaking –At this past Tuesday’s Common Council meeting, the City of Franklin voted unanimously to support a resolution that involves our church partnering with the community to help build a large all-accessible, all-inclusive playground on part of the 15 acres of land that our church purchased so that it will be nearby our future church ministry center that we are building. The plan also includes the City intending to create a nature center and all-accessible trail system on the 49 acres of land adjacent to our property just to the west, connecting it with the all-inclusive, all-accessible playground. This was very exciting news and the fruition of many conversations and meetings over the past year. Details of how this will work out amiably for all involved will be fleshed out over the next couple weeks. Stay tuned!

Pastor Ben has a Call to another church – I know that in light of all that’s going on right now this probably comes to many of you as surprising news. In fact as the Common Council meeting was taking place here in Franklin this past Tuesday evening, another meeting was taking place in Toronto, Canada. Hope Lutheran Church made a prayerful decision at this meeting to extend me the Call to move there and become their pastor. What this means is that I now have two calls from God to consider—my current one to Victory of the Lamb and one to Hope.

So over the next couple weeks I will therefore have the opportunity to prayerfully evaluate both my current call at Victory of the Lamb well as the call to serve as pastor at Hope. My prayer and goal is that this will be a healthy time for all of us to prayerfully discuss what’s best for Victory of the Lamb moving into the future and to help affirm for me where I can best serve in Christ’s kingdom to reach especially those who don’t know the victory Jesus won for them. So thank you for your prayers and whatever words of encouragement you’d like to share with me. I’d appreciate that very much.

Finally, what an opportunity God is giving us all to trust Him and to remember that Jesus, our Good Shepherd, continues to guide us, encourage us, and supply for each and every one of our needs!

Bible Quest Sabbath Next Sunday July 27th – Sabbath is a Bible word that means “rest.” Next Sunday, on July 27th we want to honor our many hard working kids’ ministry volunteers with a day of rest. So next Sunday we will not have full service Bible Quest as usual.

Next Sunday we welcome and encourage you all to bring your children with you into theater #1 for worship as a big church family. If your feel your kids are getting a little rowdy, that’s ok! We will set up an area in the lobby where you can take your small children if you wish. We will stream the service to the TV in the lobby as well. And I will incorporate the kids into the worship service with a special kids’ message.

We thank God for all the children in our church and all the people who volunteer throughout the year in our Bible Quest program!

New “Mix and March” Bible 101 — on Tuesday evenings (from 6:30-8:00 pm) and/or Saturday mornings (from 10-11:30 am) starting Tuesday August 12th and Saturday August 16th. For more info contact me or register online using this brief form.

Sermon Series Planning – Last week I spent the better part of three days hanging out with my friends who are pastors at St. Paul’s in Muskego working on sermon series planning for the next year starting in September. It’s really an amazing time with 5 pastors all sitting around for a couple days with Bibles open talking about what God has to say to His people. We’ve got a good year of solid, relevant series outlines planned out.

Sermon Resources from last Sunday can be found here on our website. One thing to note is that if you want to watch the whole service, you have until Tuesday or so to do it. After that we are trimming the service down to just the sermon portion since that is what people search for in the archives when looking for a message on a particular topic.

My VotL – On our new church website we’ve changed what used to be called the “Online Community” to “My VotL”. This is still our web based church database and directory. Please be reminded to upload a current picture of yourself and keep your contact info up to date. You will find the link to My VotL at top of our website homepage.

Victory News - Fourth of July Parade

What makes the Bible different from any other book? Is the Bible really trustworthy?

Those are good questions. Tomorrow I hope to help you see that Jesus has an honest, reliable, and perhaps surprising answer for you.

4th of July Parade:  Awesome job yesterday, everyone who helped with the parade! We were able to hand out all the candy and almost all the postcard invitations inviting people to come to our church. It is nothing less than exhilarating to get to be in the parade and personally be a part of handing out almost 2,000 invitations! I just love it. And with the band rocking out for Jesus on the float, boldly proclaiming the Gospel, it’s incredible to me the reception that we receive as people look over the invitation and realize they’re being invited to church—to a church that cares so much and loves so much and is willing to get out and be in our community, for them. So thank you, everyone!

Summer Quarter
– This week from 1-4 each afternoon I got to go back to school…back to the Seminary in Mequon for a continuing education course called “Preaching Sanctification in Ways That Honor Gospel Predominance” taught by Prof. Richard Gurgel. While it required quite a bit of reading each day outside of class as well as writing a new sermon to be critiqued by my peers (yikes!), it was a thoroughly enjoyable time spent with other pastors and I’ve already highlighted a number of a areas in my preaching where I am very excited to start applying what I’ve learned or been reminded of. (The sermon I wrote for class I’ll be preaching on August 3 so I’ll leave it to you to evaluate what I learned!)

I got to see two of my classmates I haven’t seen in a while—once since graduation eight years ago. And I also got to meet four men from Thailand who are studying to be pastors as well as one from Indonesia. The power of the Gospel to change hearts and lives is so amazing…and I am reminded how blessed we are in this free country of ours this 4th of July weekend. Let’s use that freedom to do something that many people can’t openly do without fear in our world…and that’s go to church and worship Him tomorrow!

Sermon Series Planning – This upcoming week I’ll be getting away a couple days with the pastors from St Paul’s in Muskego to plan our next year’s worth of sermon series. It’s a blessing to work together with other creative pastors to develop series that are biblical, relevant, and helpful to you. Did you know that over thirty pastors across our synod receive the resources that we create and many of them regularly use them in their churches? Just this week I talked for an hour on the phone with a mission church pastor from South Carolina who had heard about our sermon series and who asked me to include him on our distribution list.

So if you have any ideas or suggestions for a sermon series, I gladly welcome your input. Books of the Bible, questions, topics, relevant life issues, various Bible teachings, issues raised by various books or people in our world...these are all possibilities. Any thoughts? Feel free to email or text me. I will have access to the internet while away as well.

Leadership Team Meeting - In the midst of the busyness this week we had our monthly meeting at the parsonage. I just want to thank the men on our leadership team. We have an extremely dedicate group of leaders who have gospel centered hearts and who prayerfully lead us with their prayers, their dedication, the oversight of our finances, and their decisions made in the best interests of the mission and ministry of our church. Look for a report in next week’s worship folder. We’ll have some dates for you to put on the calendar of things coming up. Lots of stuff going on to the glory of God!
