Victory News - Palm Sunday

Think of the cheers of Palm Sunday: “Hosanna to the Son of David!” Then think of the jeers five days later: “Crucify him!” We may shake our heads and wonder What happened? And yet how easily we can get dragged along with the wrong crowd!

Join me this Sunday at Showtime Cinema at 9:09 am as we celebrate the victory Jesus came to win for all of us even when we’ve joined in with the wrong crowd.

Holy Week—Since we’re still in the movie theater, we don’t have our own Holy Week services. So instead, be encouraged to visit an area WELS church for Holy Week services. You will be welcome! Here’s a list of opportunities for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday worship services.

Kayla’s Krew News—What a wild week! First there was a special common council meeting held on Monday evening. Then there was another special common council meeting on Thursday evening. In a week full of surprises, the end result is that Kayla’s Playground is going to be built at Franklin Woods Park (near 36th just off of Puetz). Here’s what Kayla’s Krew had to say via their Facebook page.

My comment was simply: “Wow! As always may God bless you and our community. All of us from VotL are happy for you and can't wait to work alongside you to help build Kayla's Playground here in Franklin this September!”

Here’s what the Mayor had to say on his Facebook page as well. He spoke some kind words about our church.

Ministry Center Plans—We’re working with our civil engineer to tweak our site plan now that Kayla’s Playground is no longer a part of it. City staff has been helpful and supportive. We are very thankful for that.

Soccer Camp 2015 – Registration is up and running on our website! Mark your calendars for June 15-18! Also, if you are on social media…please SHARE the event we created on our church Facebook page.

Social Media—Speaking of social media, the last couple weeks have really confirmed for me the importance of Christians using social media to the glory of God. Facebook, Twitter, Blogs etc. are incredible tools to share our faith and display God’s love as we interact with people. And everything the Bible says about how we are supposed to deal with people in general applies online too (Think Luke 6:27-36). So thank you for representing Jesus and our church well! Take this as further encouragement to use the social media tools we have in our technology rich world to communicate grace filled words about Jesus, kind words of personal encouragement, excitement about your church, and patient love for everyone in our community.

This coming week, I’d also like to give you special encouragement to think of how you might use social media to invite a friend to come check out our church on Easter Sunday to hear about Christ’s victory! Keep your eyes open for our Easter promo next week as an easy way to do this.

Victory News

Pontius Pilate and Jesus Christ had two very different ways of doing things, yet they both stood together in the same room. What does this mean regarding the way to achieve success—from the world’s perspective? From God’s perspective?

If you’ve ever struggled with making good decisions in life or you’ve ever wondered how to make God pleasing decisions with integrity, join me tomorrow at Showtime Cinema at 9:09 am as we continue our series People of the Passion. There’s a lot we can learn from the contrast between Pontius Pilate—the one asking questions, and Jesus Christ—the Answer to all our questions!

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37).

Kayla’s Krew News—Well this has been quite a week. Actually the last couple weeks have been some of the fullest, most emotionally challenging weeks of my ministry here in Franklin—and not just for me but for many of our friends and neighbors too. Yet God is good! I’m completely at peace in freeing our friends from Kayla’s Krew to pursue another park site even though it would’ve of course been very special to me to see our partnership come to fruition on our site at Loomis Rd. But that’s ok. It’s never been about us. Our whole relationship with them has been about being a blessing to our community.

And I’m praying for our friends from Kayla’s Krew now too in what has turned out to be a very trying week for them after the common council meeting on Tuesday evening when things didn’t go as they had hoped. For that matter I’m praying also for our whole community including our elected officials and neighborhood residents that the building of Kayla’s Playground ultimately brings people together and Kayla’s story overcomes any differences of personal opinions or politics.

Right now though too I’m really thankful I’ve got a sermon ready to start learning for tomorrow. And I’m so looking forward to worshiping with you all tomorrow and sharing the gospel of Christ’s victory with you again!

For a quick recap of the events of this past week, here’s a nice balanced blog post from our Kayla’s Krew friends on their website. Many of you I’m sure have also seen information online about the Mayor’s veto of the common council’s decision Tuesday evening. You can read about what Kayla’s Krew is encouraging their supporters to do regarding a special meeting coming up this Monday on their Facebook page.

On my personal Facebook page today this is what I had to say about it: “So proud of our friends from Kayla's Krew. They have always been open and honest with us from the beginning and stayed true to their mission with integrity, compassion, and kindness. No matter what I'll be so happy for them when Kayla's Playground gets built and I can't wait to take my family there to play! I encourage all my Franklin friends to read this blog post as it does a fine job of helping to clear up some of the miscommunication floating around out there. And it's a great example of the kind of relentlessly positive people who make up Kayla's Krew. God bless our friends! And I pray that the end result of all this is that people in our community are brought together to celebrate a dream come true in honor of a special little girl named Kayla.”

Ministry Center Plans—While this week has been challenging with its surprises due to the turn of events involving Kayla’s Krew and the City, yet at the same time we’re still moving forward in faith with our ministry center building project as we always have. Thursday morning we met as a team at Catalyst Construction’s office Downtown at 7 am to pour over construction documents, our site plan, and the bids that we have received so far. The good news is that our church’s ministry center project will go forward! The Builders for Christ will be coming this summer! At the same time though there are some stewardship decisions and site plan tweaks that we are currently working on as a result of all that’s happened. Please continue to keep our mission in your prayers as we work towards ground breaking, God-willing, about this time next month. Stay tuned!

Host Team– As a church we want to excel in creating a friendly, comfortable place where all our guests feel hosted and welcome. Training opportunities are now available if you’re interested in being part of the team. See tomorrow’s worship folder for more details.

Easter Flowers—Easter flowers for the altar on Easter Sunday are available to order. Easter Lilies and Mums are $8.00 each and Daffodils, Hyacinths and Tulips are $7.50 each. All come in a 6 inch pot. Payment to be paid by cash or check payable to Linda Tomczyk. Sign up sheet and envelopes for payment are located in the lobby. Last date to sign up is Sunday, March 22nd.

Soccer Camp 2015 – Registration is up and running on our website! Mark your calendars for June 15-18!

Kayla's Krew - Praying for You

Kayla's Krew We're all praying for you! Thanks for having our back. We've still got yours. That's what friends and neighbors are for. The story of your mission will continue to inspire our community to come together. Don't lose hope! Kayla's Playground will soon become a reality one way or another. From the cocoon always comes the butterfly. You've helped teach us this. And isn't it in ways like this that God often chooses to do his most beautiful work? Here's a little prayer for you from the Psalms: "May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands" (Psalm 90:17).

Victory News - Spring Forward!

A man who was supposed to have all the answers once came to Jesus with questions. He came under the cover of darkness to get to know firsthand the one who called himself “the light of the world.” Smart move!

His name was Nicodemus. Join me tomorrow as we continue our series People of the Passion to see what happens when curiosity leads to courage because of Jesus Christ.

*Remember – set your clocks ahead an hour tonight. Spring ahead…and see you in the morning! We’ll be sure have the coffee going for you. Bible study at 8:09 and worship an hour later.

Coming Up—This week Wednesday I’ll be preaching at St Paul’s in Muskego for their mid-week Lent service. Worship times are at 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm.

Bible 101 – I'm starting to get a group together for my next Bible 101 class. It looks like we'll get going in April after Easter. Stay tuned for more info. Please let me know if you're interested in participating if you haven't yet. I'd be happy to take into account what days/times you're available to meet. Let me know!

Hospitality Team –As a church family we want to excel in creating a friendly, comfortable place where all our guests feel welcome. The next couple weeks in the back of the worship folder you’ll find an outline of our plan to include a greater number of volunteers in welcoming guests as part of a new Hospitality Team. Our goal is to have our hospitality plan in place for welcoming guests on April 5th for Easter. This will also give us plenty of time to be prepared for the opening of our new building next winter.

So take a look at the different positions we’re creating. Let Christie or Lauren know if you’re interested. Next week after church on March 15th we’ll have a short presentation at the end of the service followed by a meeting of everyone interested in helping out afterwards as part of the team. Over the last two weeks of March, you’ll have a couple more opportunities to learn exactly what’s expected for the areas you’ll be involved in and receive some training so everyone’s on the same page. On March 29th you’ll pick up your Hospitality Team T-shirts. God willing then, we’ll be ready to go on Easter!
