Victory News - Anticipation

What are you most looking forward to?

That’s a question I’ve been asked repeatedly the last couple weeks as our ministry center building project has been coming to a conclusion and we hope to have our first services there now on December 20th.

My answer, truthfully? Seeing more people fill the chairs (which you helped buy—thank you!) who might not yet know the victory that Jesus won for them. But also just seeing how God’s going to surprise us with blessings we didn’t plan for or necessarily expect because with God, I’ve come to expect the unexpected. I anticipate that God will bless us in ways we didn’t think of and in ways more abundantly than we could have hoped.

What are you most looking forward to?

Join us this Sunday at Showtime Cinema at 9:09 am as we start a new series this Advent season called “Anticipation.” It’s fitting as we look forward to so many blessings at our new ministry center that we also anticipate the blessings that we have through Jesus Christ—who came into this world on that first Christmas and who’s coming back at the end of time.

Thank you, chair movers!
Updated Timeline – Starting December 20th we will be having two services on Sunday mornings at our new ministry center which is located at 11120 W Loomis Rd. The first service will start at 9 am. The second one at 10:45 am.

Operation Jesus Cares – Christmas Project: On December 17th we will be partnering once again with Christ-St Peter’s School in Milwaukee for an outreach Christmas service project. We will be raising money that will go towards purchasing items for care packages, and the students at Christ-St Peter’s will assemble the care packages and deliver them to neighbors near the school along with helpers from our church. Make an online donation through the church website.

Then on Thursday, December 17th, we will be meeting at Christ-St Peter’s School in the morning to assist the students in assembling their care packages, and walking with the students in the neighborhood as they deliver their care packages. The event will last roughly from 8AM-noon, and ends with a special lunch/celebration with the students in their lunchroom. If you would like to volunteer, please respond give us your name and phone number. Young children are welcome to the event! This is a really fun, great way to give back this season and show the love of Jesus.

Mr. Bill’s Christmas Ornaments (all silent auction proceeds go to supporting our OJC Christmas Project to help people in need)

The sheet of bids is available right on the display table with the ornaments in the lobby. We will continue to receive bids today until 11 am after church. Each winning bidder will be contacted the week of November 29th-December 5th and winners will be invited to pick up their ornament December 6th or 13th with a check made out to Victory of the Lamb for the amount of the winning bid. Take note of the # for any particular ornaments that you would really like. If you don’t have the winning bid on November 29th, Mr. Bill has offered to make duplicates for the amount of the winning bid.

Bible 101Want to be part of my first class in our new ministry center? Let me know if you’re interested so I can keep you in the loop. I anticipate starting a new class in January once the holidays are over and we’ve moved into our new church.

Bible 101 is the starting point in our church for anyone who would like to learn more about God, anyone who wants to see for themselves what the Bible says, or anyone who would like to receive the sacrament of holy communion in our fellowship.

It’s also a great refresher for anyone who’d like to review the Bible’s basic teachings or who who’d like to grow beyond knowing a bunch of religious sounding clich├ęs to know actual Bible truth.

Advent Devotions – Our synod’s college of ministry, Martin Luther College (MLC), has prepared a special devotional booklet that you can download and use for free. The 25 devotions in this booklet were authored by current students at MLC, as well as pastors, teachers, staff ministers, and lay leaders who have studied at MLC. They are intended for use December 1-25. Download the free pdf here.

Victory News - Change of Plans

1989, Domino Rally. I remember it well. I got it for Christmas that year. The cover of the box says it all: “It’s a chain reaction of surprising stunts and non-stop action.” Simply set up the plastic framework, place the dominoes one by one, and 3-2-1… domino powered rocket liftoff!

Except it was never that simple.

What I learned trying to set up those hundreds of dominoes is that often just one little nudge, one shaky finger, or one accidental encounter with our family kitten is all it took to set off that “chain reaction of surprising stunts and non-stop action.”

This week we had a domino fall like that with our ministry center building project. Nothing major. Just one domino really—a shipping delay on the sanctuary lights. Something beyond our control. What that means however is that some things can’t be completed until those lights arrive and get installed—not the least of which are our final inspections leading up to an occupancy permit. Otherwise everything is wrapping up wonderfully on site and I can’t wait for you all to be able to see it completed and get to worship our Savior there together!

So that being the case, we now anticipate, prayerfully and God-willing as always, that December 20th will be our first Sunday holding services in our new ministry center followed by a special Christmas Eve later that week.

The way I look at it is that God is reminding us once again that he is in control and all our future plans are in his hands—short term and long term. The good news is that there is no safer and better place for them to be!

The other good news for which I’m thankful is that Showtime Cinema is willing and able to be flexible with us, graciously allowing us to still meet there as usual on December 6th and 13th.

So all things considered…I feel fine. In fact this Sunday we’ll be talking about what it means for our lives that Christ is our King who is in control. What better way to celebrate the conclusion to our series “It’s the End of the World…and I Feel Fine!” I invite you to come alongside me on this journey of faith again this Sunday at Showtime Cinema at 9:09 for some timely, important gospel truth.

Beautiful sunsets this week

Updated Timeline – Starting December 20th we will be having two services on Sunday mornings at our new ministry center. The first service will start at 9 am. The second one at 10:45 am.

Buy a Chair Update –  We did it!!! This week we received a number of gifts in the mail from family members of people in our church expressing their thankfulness to God. I also received a joyful email from our brothers and sisters at St. Paul’s in Muskego with the encouraging news that they’ve been gathering gifts to send us for our chairs as well. And with that news…once those checks have all arrived, we’ll have hit our goal of raising $20,000 to cover the costs of having 300 chairs in our sanctuary. I can’t thank you all enough for your joyful generosity! Any further gifts given via our text-to-give campaign will go to helping us furnish the rest of our ministry center including the welcome room, lobby, and multi-purpose room.

Victory News - Everything Sad Untrue

Picture from the book "The Jesus Storybook Bible" depicting Revelation chapter 21
Upon waking up, after experiencing the horrors of Mt. Doom, Sam sees Gandalf and he says:

“Gandalf! I thought you were dead! But then I thought I was dead myself. Is everything sad going to come untrue? What's happened to the world?”

“A great Shadow has departed,” said Gandalf, and then he laughed and the sound was like music, or like water in a parched land; and as he listened the thought came to Sam that he had not heard laughter, the pure sound of merriment, for days upon days without count.

I don’t know about you, but ever since I was a boy, this conversation recorded by author J.R.R. Tolkien in his book “The Return of the King” has resonated in the deepest parts of my soul.

Is everything sad going to come untrue?

Well as wonderful as Gandalf’s reply, the Gospel of Jesus Christ answers even more definitely, “Yes!” Yes because Jesus has conquered the grave. Yes because Jesus has won the victory over Satan. Yes because heaven is going to be our true and lasting home. For all those who trust in Jesus Christ alone, everything sad really is going to come untrue!

Join me this Sunday at Showtime Cinema at 9:09 as I eagerly look forward to sharing with you the beautiful comfort of one of my favorite chapters in the Bible on what is known as “Saints Triumphant” Sunday.

We’re On the Move! – This Sunday begins our 3-2-1 countdown to moving into our newly completed ministry center at 11120 W Loomis Rd. Just $1,650 more to go to meet our goal so we can have 300 chairs on day one. Operation Jesus Cares – Christmas Project: Even though we’re a church in the suburbs we also have a heart for the sharing Christ’s victory in the City. Therefore once again we will be working with Christ-St Peter’s School in Milwaukee for our outreach Christmas project.
