Victory News - Another Year of God's Grace

One family's VotL Christmas Eve even while out of town

Dear Friends,

(In case you missed them – Watch our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services online. Enjoy a fresh perspective on what a difference Christmas makes every single day!)

It’s a little hard to believe but our next opportunity to worship together will be in 2017! Join me this Sunday on New Year’s Day as we begin another new year of God’s grace. I can’t imagine any better way to start a new year than being with my church family gathering to hear God’s Word—to be reassured of God’s forgiveness and a fresh start, to seek God’s guidance for how to be a better version of myself, to help carry each other’s burdens, and to pray for God’s blessings for the road ahead.

In the News – Check out a great article from local reporter Tiffany Stoiber about our Operation Jesus Cares Christmas Project with Christ-St Peter’s school. Thanks again to all who donated, prayed, or volunteered for this event!

New Bible 101 Class – Saturdays @10:30am. Start the new year out right. New class is starting January 14th. Meets for 4 weeks ending Feb. 4. // 10:30-Noon at the ministry center. All materials provided. For anyone interested in learning more about God and the Bible. The first step also for anyone wanting to learn more about our church or wanting to take Holy Communion. Contact me to register.

“Deep Love” building healthy relationships – starts Feb 1. A new relationships group to meet 4 consecutive Wednesday evenings Feb 1- Feb 22 6:30-8:00 pm. Childcare provided. It’s for couples who want to move from broken to better as well as those moving from good to great. Also open to couples who are engaged or dating. Contact Pastor Bill if interested.

New Bible 301 Class – Tuesdays @6:30pm. Class meets on 8 consecutive Tuesday nights Jan 17-Mar 7. This is the next step for those who have completed Bible 101 and 201 // 6:30-8:00 pm at the ministry center. Contact Pastor Bill if interested.

Home with His Savior – Tuesday morning this week our Savior Jesus called home Ray Milosch, the father of Liz Scheel, our Victory Kids Director. His health had been declining for a while and was in home hospice care. While we grieve with Liz and her family, with also rejoice with them that Ray is now perfectly at peace with his Savior and ours--enjoying the eternal victory won for us by Jesus and stored up for us in heaven! Here’s a link to Ray’s obituary with today’s service details at the Heritage Funeral Home on 27th St in Oak Creek.

Matching Gift Opportunity - Sanctuary Art and Furnishings. Generous donors have volunteered to match dollar for dollar any special gifts given between now and the end of the year! So far we’ve raised about 40K of the 50K required to fully fund the project. That means we have just 10K to go—5K in gifts received by the end of the year would be fully matched to bring us to finish line! Details of the project can be found online here as well as ways to donate.

More Than Bricks Update
MTB kicked off in December 2014 as a major funding campaign for our new Ministry Center, with a goal of $500,000.  80% of the money received ($400,000) is being used to reduce our mortgage debt and related expenses, and 20% ($100,000) is being used to support mission work in North Dakota, St. Lucia and Nepal.  We are 2 years into the 3 year campaign, and you’ve seen monthly status updates in the Friday blog from Pastor Ben and Pastor Bill.

Commitments                                                $416,000    (83.2% of Goal)
Donations Received in December                $5,986    (Need $7,225/mo to reach commitment goal)
Total Received through December               $329,302   (79.2% of Commitments, 66% of goal)
Total Received in 2015:  $206,052                        Total Received in 2016:  $123,250

God has blessed us richly in this campaign, and our prayer is that we strive to reach the $500,000 in commitments during the next 12 months.  As a reminder, your box of donation envelopes includes a monthly MTB envelope, and you can also donate either on line or via text.  If you are a new member or would like an informational packet about MTB, please ask an usher at church.

A Year of Blessings – Our total worship attendance (adults and kids) in 2016 was 18,295 vs. 12,319 in 2015. This is 49% growth overall. God be praised! Attendance in Victory Kids was 3,381 (including helpers) vs 2,154 in 2015 (including helpers). This is 54% growth in Victory Kids overall when including the number of helpers serving per Sunday. The growth of kids in the program is about 35%. God be praised!

New Leadership Team Members – Steve Abramowski and Jason Seiberlich will be installed this Sunday during the 9 am service.

In Jesus’ peace,

Pastor Ben

Victory News - Christmas Weekend Is Here!

Operation Jesus Cares - The Christmas Project

Hey there, are you reading this? Anybody listening? I guess I just have to trust your Pastor Ben that somehow the internet (whatever that is!) will deliver this message to you. It’s a little hard to comprehend how incredible your forms of communication are today. Amazing!

Because I’m just a shepherd—think sort of like a baby-sitter except that I watch over sheep. A sheep-sitter! But this Christmas Eve I’ve also got a powerful story to share with you. I’ve come a long way to share it, but it’s definitely going to be worth it. I wouldn’t let anything get in the way of me being with you Saturday. You see I’ve found the secret to having peace. I’m telling you folks, this is for real! And I just can’t keep it to myself.

So would you please join me this Christmas Eve? I have a message to share more relevant to your lives than you would ever think possible in your technology filled world. But hey, enough about me. Join me and your other shepherds (aka your pastors) at either 4:30 or 6:30 pm this Christmas Eve. And bring a friend! Please…help them find peace. Help them find Jesus. There is still room around the manger.

(ICYMI – This past Sunday was our Victory Kids Christmas program followed by a special message where we learned that God is bigger than all our problems and struggles. Watch it here!)
Operation Jesus Cares – Wednesday was a great opportunity to focus on the true meaning of Christmas. About 30 volunteers shared Christ's love in a Milwaukee neighborhood for the 5th year in a row along with the school kids from Christ-St. Peter Lutheran school. Thank you to everyone who volunteered or donated for this special event. For the 5th year in a row we collected $2,500 to accomplish this! Well done, everyone! Check out some pictures on our church Facebook page.

Christmas Worship Opportunities at Victory of the Lamb – on Christmas Eve we will have two services: 4:30 and 6:30 pm. Each service is the same. The music will have a special bluegrassy feel. On Christmas Day we will have just one service at 9 am with Holy Communion. This is a completely different service from Christmas Eve. There is no Victory Kids on Christmas Day. Our New Year’s Day schedule will be our regular Sunday morning schedule with two services and Victory Kids at both.

YEAR END MATCHING GIFT OPPORTUNITY - Sanctuary Art and Furnishings. Generous donors who are excited about seeing this project successfully completed have volunteered to match dollar for dollar any special gifts given between now and the end of the year! So far we’ve raised about 40K of the 50K required to fully fund the project. That means we have just 10K to go—5K in gifts received by the end of the year would be fully matched to bring us to finish line! Again, this is completely a free will giving opportunity. If God has blessed you this past year and you’re excited to help furnish our worship space with a beautiful wall piece, an altar, a baptismal font, and a preaching podium by this coming Easter…this would be a great time to give to get your gift matched. Details of the project can be found online here as well as ways to donate.

New Leadership Team Members – Steve Abramowski and Jason Seiberlich were chosen to serve on the Leadership Team at our meeting Monday evening. They will be installed in worship on January 1st and begin their terms of office at the next Leadership Team meeting on January 16th. Thank you to everyone who was nominated and willing to serve! It speaks well to the health of our congregation that there were so many individuals able and willing to serve. What a blessing to have you all part of our church family to help carry out our mission of sharing Christ’s victory with today’s people, loving them enough to meet them where they’re at.

In Jesus’ peace,

Pastor Ben

Victory News - Weekend Weather

Andrew says if you bundle up it's not so bad!

Dear Friends,

I don’t think there’s any doubt we’ll be having a white Christmas this year. It looks like God is reminding us that we still live in Wisconsin! Another round of snow is headed our way on Friday and Saturday followed by a deep freeze on Sunday.

I just wanted to let you all know that we’re aware of the weather and we’ve been talking about it as a team. At this time, the Saturday rehearsal for the Victory Kids Christmas program to take place on Sunday during the 10:45 service is going forward as planned. If we need to change anything we’ll communicate through email, Facebook, and a special Victory Kids weather update page on the church website.

So consider this your invitation to bundle up or perhaps “gird thyselves” (like the old King James Version used to say!) and join us this Sunday in person or online for a special Sunday of worship. The message as we continue our series “The Way It Was” will be the same both services except that the Victory Kids service will take place during the 10:45 service. 9 am will be a regular service. A reminder there is no Victory Kids during the 9 am service.

Postcard Sorting Volunteers Needed This Monday from 12:30-3:30 pm we will be having a postcard sorting party at the ministry center. We have 17,500 Christmas Eve postcards we need to sort into mailing bins so they can be taken to the post office on Tuesday. Ideally we would have 6-10 people show up to help make this happen. Can you help? The more the merrier. Please email me to let me know you’re coming or else just show up around 12:30 on Monday. Thank you!

Invitation Encouragement – Did you know…Christmas Eve is the single most likely day of the year people are willing to visit a church? Please use this opportunity to invite someone you know who doesn’t have a church home to join you at one of our services. Use social media, hand deliver a postcard with a personal note, shovel snow for your neighbors, drop off some freshly baked cookies…show them kindness in whatever way is most natural to you. Let them know we’re a place where everyone is welcome and no one is pressured. Let them know we’re a place where you’ve found peace through a message of hope in Jesus!

Operation Jesus Cares – Wednesday, December 21st, 8am-noon. Once again we’re partnering with Christ St. Peter’s School in Milwaukee for assembly and delivery of care packages with the students. This is our opportunity to have a positive impact on a struggling community. Still time to help as a volunteer. Sign-up in the Welcome Area or contact Ryan Solie. Visit our event page to read more and see pictures from last year’s project.

Toy Drive Thanks – Friends of Jesus thanks us for donating over 60 gifts that will given to students from Christ-St Peter school. Thank you all for so generously stepping up to show Christ’s love in this way!

Christian Art Available One More Sunday. This Sunday, December 18, our graphic designer, Naomi Scheel, will be selling prints of her Scripture based artwork in the lobby. This is your opportunity to purchase and enjoy some beautiful Christian artwork just in time for Christmas! $5 from each item sold will be donated to the Poulos family.

MATCHING GIFT OPPORTUNITY - Sanctuary Art and Furnishings.

Next Leadership Team Meeting – Monday, December 19th. Contact the Leadership Team with any questions or concerns about our mission or ministry or to give feedback on any of the individuals nominated to fill the vacant Leadership Team positions

Christmas at Victory of the Lamb – on Christmas Eve we will have two services: 4:30 and 6:30 pm. On Christmas Day we will have just one service at 9 am. Our New Year’s Day schedule will be our regular Sunday morning schedule with two services and Victory Kids at both.

(ICYMI – Watch Pastor Bill’s excellent sermon from last Sunday to help you be prepared for Christmas. “When we confess our sins, God doesn't throw us away...he patiently forgives us, puts us back on our feet, and calls us to loving service over and over again.”)
Sharing Christ’s Victory,

Pastor Ben

Sanctuary Art and Furnishings

Latest Rendering by Paul Mattek of Design Fugitives

Dear Church Family,

Stuffed. To me, it’s a Thanksgiving word.

This year has certainly been stuffed full of God’s blessings. It was wonderful to actually get to sit with my family during our first Thanksgiving Eve service and listen with them (as much as possible with a toddler sitting next to you!) to Pastor Bill’s sermon. A year ago we were worshiping at the cinema. Now we have our own ministry center. A year ago I was a lone-ranger pastor. This year I have an associate. I am thankful.

Pastor Bill encouraged us to remember the Lord’s faithfulness to us over our lifetimes as well as over the timeline of our church. I was reminded again this morning when I saw our attendance report for November. Adults + kids we averaged over 350 people a Sunday in worship. Wow! To God be the glory. I am thankful.

In view of God’s blessings this past Thanksgiving week, month, year…I wish to present both a simple update and a special giving opportunity for this December.

We’re at the point where I believe we’re able to move forward with completing our sanctuary art and furnishings project. This project involves a special wall art piece, altar, baptismal font, preaching podium and a stage extension which will create more visual space on the stage to feature the sacramental furnishings and allow for different musician configurations like we’ve been experimenting with the last couple weeks.

There are still a few details to be worked out regarding such things as the exact kind of LED lighting for the wall art, the dimensions of the stage extension, and any audio/video/lighting enhancements that such an extension might require. There is time to work out these details as we head towards an Easter completion goal.

$50,000 is the target amount not to exceed for completing the project. This amount gives us some flexibility to make final decisions regarding lighting details and those other technical decisions. I expect the final cost of the project to be between $45-50K.

$37,700 is the amount already received! This amount has already been given without me even asking for anything simply because people are excited to see this project come to fruition.

Therefore, $12,300 is the amount we hope to yet receive or have committed by the end of the year.

So what am I asking for? Simply this…
  1. Many of you have already asked me when I would present a giving opportunity for this project because you’ve expressed a desire to be involved. Thank you for both your excitement and your patience with me! So if that’s you now…or you feel that God has stuffed you with blessings this past year and this is a project you’re excited about now seeing completed, please consider a special one-time year-end gift over and above your regular offerings. You can give online at this link by designating the fund “Sanctuary Art & Furnishings.” You can also give by writing a check or putting cash in an envelope marked “Sanctuary Art & Furnishings” which you can mail or put into the offering basket.
  2. I’m not asking this to place a burden on any of you. This is totally a free will project that I hope to complete out of gospel joy. I believe that God has already generously provided us with means enough to move forward on this project trusting that those who are excited about it and in a position to give towards its completion will do so. At the end of the day, when it’s completed, we’ll all get to enjoy it and be reminded visually every week of how Jesus has won an eternal victory for us and how he freely invites us to share in it every week through word and sacrament.
  3. As gifts are given or committed over the next month, I will keep you updated as best I can as to when we reach our goal. Any gifts over and above the final needed amount will be allocated to More Than Bricks.
  4. My family and I intend to joyfully give this month towards this project in loving memory of our loved ones whom we look forward to sharing Christ’s victory with one day in heaven. With hope this project makes us remember our Savior's words: "Because I live, you also will live" (John 14:19b).
In Christ’s Victory,

Pastor Ben

Victory News - Benefit Sunday

Poulos Family Benefit, Sunday 3-6 pm

Dear Friends,

This afternoon at 4pm, the Franklin High School football team is playing in the D1 state championship game in Madison against an undefeated team from Kimberly. What an exciting opportunity for those football players to compete for the title of state champs! A video was posted online of the team buses pulling out and heading to the big game.

I’m guessing though there wasn’t a video of you heading off to work today, was there? No police escort. Nobody lining the street wishing you the best. At least there wasn’t for me.

And yet… in a very real sense, God has also put us together on a team. His team. The Church. Together we have a mission. To share Christ’s victory…over doubt, over despair, over previously unbeaten death itself.

Join me this Sunday as we conclude our study of 1 Corinthians with God’s promise that because Jesus lives…our mission work in this world is NOT IN VAIN. He is cheering us on!

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

(ICYMI watch Pastor Bill’s sermon from this past Sunday about how all bad things must come to an end.)

Come enjoy: Silent auction (over 75 items), Vendor sale, Family & Kids' activities, Live band. Hope to see you there! Be sure and check out the AMAZING list of silent auction items. Visit our church Facebook page and use social media to share the event with your friends and family. Let’s get the word out! So many people have worked really hard to make this an incredible event as a blessing. Through our church we’ve also set up a Poulos Family Fund that you can give directly towards using our online giving platform.

Leadership Team Nominations – Per an email I sent out on November 10th, VotL members are reminded to submit nominations to fill the two vacant Leadership Team positions via email either directly to me or to the entire Leadership Team. Please do so as soon as possible.

Victory News - 3 Days That Changed the World

Looking for a sign to go to church? Stop right here!
On Tuesday, the citizens of our country are going to elect our next President. That individual will be the 44th different person to hold the office. It’s an important position and a high calling to be sure. Yet every president’s term of office has been measured by a calendar marked off by the life of a man who once worked as Jewish carpenter nearly 2,000 years ago—Jesus of Nazareth.

In fact every time any human being anywhere on the planet opens a calendar, checks their phone, or boots up a computer, they are reminded that Jesus Christ has in fact become the hinge of human history.
Many world leaders have come and gone. The legacy of Jesus Christ lives on.

Nero, for example, died “in the year of our Lord”—A.D. 68. Napoleon died “in the year of our Lord” 1821. Joseph Stalin died “in the year of our Lord” 1953.

As author John Ortberg says, “Maybe Jesus was not Lord of lords and King of kings, but how strange that now every ruler who ever reigned must be dated in reference to the life of Jesus.”

Join me this Sunday at Victory of the Lamb as we explore why—three days that changed the world. Three days that can change your life!

(ICYMI watch my sermon from this past Sunday on how Jesus has busted the good person myth...and instead has given us a message that is truly Good News!)

Wednesdays @ 6:30pm through Nov 9 - “Who Is This Man?”
Companion Bible class to the sermon series from 6:30-8:30pm at the Ministry Center // Contact Pastor Bill for details // blimmer@victoryofthelamb.com

Victory News - Busting the 'Good Person Myth'

Almost 500 years ago, on October 17, 1517 something major took place in Germany when a man named Martin Luther published a document by nailing it to a church door which detailed false teachings and abuses in the church. (This was before blogging!)

What happened? The ‘good person myth’ was busted. Consciences were set free. People learned that they were forgiven in the sight of God by faith in Jesus Christ alone apart from their good works.

It turns out though that the ‘good person myth’ is a persistent bugger. It takes many subtle forms and still holds countless people captive to this day. But the good news is that Jesus is the man who won’t go away. And the message that he came to bring, the Gospel, continues to bust the ‘good person myth’ in a spirit of continuing reformation in the church.

Join me this Sunday as we explore what this so-called ‘good person myth’ is all about and how the message of Jesus blows it up. It’s truly good news! And don’t you think we need some more of that in our world today?

(ICYMI watch Pastor Bill’s sermon from last Sunday about the power of forgiveness. I had the privilege of preaching at my Grandma’s church in Juneau last Sunday for their mission festival and getting to serve her the Lord’s Supper.)

Wednesdays @ 6:30pm through Nov 9 - “Who Is This Man?”

So if this is something you’re able to do, please consider taking some time to help us out. Your review might just be what leads to someone getting introduced to their Savior!

As we continue our “Who is This Man?” sermon series this Sunday we are going to explore a wonderfully comforting account from Luke chapter 8, two interwoven stories that shed light not only on who Jesus is, but faith’s response to a Savior who says, “Don't be afraid; just believe” (Luke 8:50).

Victory News - Who Is This Man?

Dear Friends,

Consider. Whoever wins this year’s presidential election will one day die and be forgotten. Their legacy will not endure. Their influence will fade away.

But Jesus is the person in all of history who won’t go away. His legacy lasts. His influence is still immense. From a human viewpoint though, his movement should have failed before it even started. Yet Jesus’ impact was greater a hundred years after his death than it was during his life. It was greater still after five hundred years. And after two thousand years… he has more followers in more places than ever!

Join me tomorrow as we begin a new series where we will consider the indisputable influence Jesus has had on our world. How his life and teaching simply drew people to follow him. How he made history by starting in a humble place, in a spirit of love and acceptance. How he shared and lived God’s message of sin and grace. And how his vision for us to lead lives of dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope continues to inspire and challenge humanity today.

“Love is an action. It looks like something. It looks like service.” Watch Pastor Bill’s outstanding sermon based on 1 Corinthians 14 from this past Sunday as he wrapped up our mini-series on spiritual gifts.

Victory News - Love Is Everything

Dear Friends,

Love. It’s not just wistful thoughts. It’s not just wishy-washy feelings. It’s not mere sentimental words.

It’s everything. Without it, Paul says, we are nothing.

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:2).

Join me this Sunday as we dig into 1 Corinthians 13, a chapter of the Bible that God wants to use to recalibrate our hearts and lives and relationships. What do this have to do with you and me? What does this have to do with spiritual gifts and our church? In a word…everything. Love makes all the difference.

Do you have a case of HDD (“Honor-Deficiency-Disorder") or EH (“Extra-honor-itis”)? Watch Vicar Peter's message based on 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 from this past Sunday to get the cure!

Weeding Pullers Needed Tomorrow! Help pulling weeds around the ministry center this Saturday morning at 9 am. Just show up. Bring some buckets if you've got them, maybe some gloves, perhaps a trowel or spade. Boots might be nice too. The ground is soft and the weeds pull out pretty easily, but some are getting quite large! There is quite a bit of work to do and we could use your help. If you have any questions please contact Ron Takacs at 414-510-4805. This will help prepare for sodding and seeding this Fall.

Sod Party Next Saturday – Volunteers needed at the ministry center on October 1st, beginning at 8:00 am. We have 12 pallets of sod coming, so it would be great if we could get 15-20 people there to help, as we'll be able to get 6-7 teams of 3 people or so working around the building. If anyone has sod cutters that they could bring, that would be great. Any questions please contact Jim Guenther / 414-659-3648.

Victory Kids – Victory Kids is back to both services again after the summer. If you have any questions about our Victory Kids program, or wish to learn more about volunteering, please contact our Victory Kids Director, Liz Scheel.

Breakfast and Bible Group – Will meet again this Monday, September 26th @5:45 am in the ministry center lobby // all are welcome // free breakfast & coffee. Studying Bible.

New 101 Class – continues Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00. Lesson on Grace.

Sanctuary Art and Furnishings – Next week I am meeting with Paul Mattek of Design Fugitives to discuss extending the stage as part of the overall project. Jeff Tredo, one of our original building architects, has generously volunteered to work with us to cover the costs.

September Leadership Team Update – Printed copies of this month’s update from our September 12th meeting will be available at the info tables in the lobby. It will also be available online soon on the page where all of Leadership Team updates are made available.

Symposium on Hermeneutics This week Monday and Tuesday, Pastor Bill and I attended a gathering with 350 other pastors at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary for a symposium on Biblical Interpretation (aka Hermeneutics). For those of you who might be interested in digging or experiencing this too, the papers that were studied as well as archived video that was live streamed is available on the Seminary website here.

An Army For Jackson – John and Ashley Poulos' son Jackson (age 4) is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Please continue to pray for this family! If you would like to help in a tangible way, you can purchase food/grocery/gas gift cards and place them in the box marked "Support for Poulos Family" in the welcome area at church. Victory News - September Body Building

Dear Friends,

I remember the first time I walked into a weight room with the rest of my freshman football team. Yikes.  I was tall, skinny, wimpy (not much has changed there!) and totally clueless. I felt like a fish out of water. Like I didn’t belong.

But our coaches took the time to show us how to use the equipment. Upperclassmen helped to teach me proper form. Together we set some reachable goals and as teammates we gave each other encouragement. Then I started to see some progress, started to have fun, and started to feel like I belonged on the team. Eventually enjoying success on the field only increased that feeling of getting to be part of something special.

This, I think, is how a lot of people feel when they start coming to church. It can be nerve wracking at first, super intimidating even. They’re sizing themselves up. They’re looking around. They’re wondering, “Do I belong here?” “Where do I fit?” “Is this for me?” But if we find our place, if we grow in using our gifts, if we encourage each other and work together…there is great joy to be had in belonging to something special!

This is what we’ll be talking about Sunday as we study 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 in the Bible. Peter Schlicht, our new student assistant from the Seminary, is going to talking about “Body Building.”

What’s this all about? It’s about how each one of us is part of the Body of Christ! We’re here to encourage each other, to honor each other, and to work together using our spiritual gifts as members of one body to share the message of our common Savior.

Click here to watch my message from this past Sunday, "The Holy Spirit Loves Diversity.” This was part one of another mini-series within 1 Corinthians based on chapters 12-14. Its sets the stage for what Peter will be sharing this coming Sunday.

Breakfast and Bible Group – Will meet again this Monday, September 19th @5:45 am in the ministry center lobby // all are welcome // free breakfast & coffee. We’ll be starting a new book of the Bible so this would be a great time to jump in!

Victory News - Back to Church Sunday!

Truck, van, bike...or trike...come back to church this Sunday! Victory Kids is also back to two services.

Dear Friends,

15 years ago. September 11, 2001. It was a Tuesday. I was in college coming out from a class when I heard the news. “We’re under attack.”

That following Sunday, church attendance spiked in churches all across our country.

I’m praying that church attendance once again trends upward in churches all across the country this Sunday, September 11, 2016, as we reflect on what took place 15 years ago and what’s taken place in the 15 years since. We have so many blessings to thank God for, yet at the same time so many reasons to continue to turn to God’s Word and ask in prayer for God’s divine protection and peace.

So please join me this “Back to Church Sunday” coming up this Sunday, September 11th. We’re beginning a new section of 1 Corinthians that looks at spiritual gifts, how each of us has been given a gift by the Holy Spirit, and how we can use our gifts together to make a difference in our world for time… and for eternity!

Victory News - 1st Week of September

Paul Mattek from Design Fugitives presenting his design for sanctuary art / furnishings between services last Sunday. See below for update.
Dear Friends,

It was good to be back with you all this past Sunday after getting to spend a week away with my family on vacation in Branson, MO! Two quick highlights of our trip (among many):

First was worshiping together as a family at Table Rock Lake at a picnic table as we read a Psalm, discussed it, prayed, and sang in a beautiful place surrounded by God’s creation. Second was taking in a production about Moses and getting a tour backstage at the Sight and Sound Theatre which is an absolutely incredible facility in the Ozarks. They did an incredible job making the Bible come alive. And what impressed me very much was how clearly the message of Jesus rang out during and at the end of that production! Taking in the whole scene with the Passover meal as they portrayed it was powerful.

This coming Sunday at Victory of the Lamb, Pastor Bill will wrap up our section on Intimacy and Purity by talking about the blessings of a single life. I appreciate the positive feedback you’ve given about this part of our journey through 1 Corinthians. It hasn’t been easy putting together these messages but it’s helpful to hear that many of you have appreciated them and found them to be timely, tactful, and truthful.

Click here to watch my message from this past Sunday, "What's love got to do with it?" Part 3 of our mini series--Intimacy and Purity--as we've been going through 1 Corinthians 5-7.
During Sunday’s sermon I shared that I put together a list of resources related to some of the topics we’ve been unpacking in this “Intimacy and Purity” section of 1 Corinthians. Here’s a link to those resources.

Series Q and A This Sunday – If you have any questions from our current series topic, go ahead and email them to me ahead of this Sunday. Or you can text me your questions Sunday after Pastor Bill’s sermon on singleness. I’ve built into our service for Sunday a Q and A opportunity where Pastor Bill and I will address a couple of your questions. If we end up having more good questions than time allows this could open up the door for another conversation too at a different time.

Victory Kids – Victory Kids will continue with regular children’s programming at both services again starting on Sunday, September 11. If you have any questions, contact our Victory Kids Director, Liz Scheel.

Welcome Peter!
Student Assistant Peter Schlicht – Sunday we installed our new student assistant from the Seminary for the next 9 months. Along with Peter we also welcomed his wife, Rachel. Last year Peter lived and served as a vicar in Rockford, MI. Peter’s position at VotL has been crafted with his gifts in mind along with where those gifts can best be used now that Pastor Bill is on the team too. Therefore, Peter will be doing some preaching but less than Caleb Schultz did last year. Peter will serve often as a teacher in Victory Kids. Also in coordination with Liz, our Victory Kids director, Peter will lead and develop a youth band made up of some of our church’s teens to help lead the Victory kids in a song that they would then sing in church every other month with the teen musicians leading the music. Peter will also work with Sarah Kuerth, our Music Team leader, to integrate with our worship band playing guitar, worship leading, and mentoring especially a couple of our young guitarists. As time permits Peter may also teach a Teen Bible 101 class and fill in wherever else it might be mutually agreeable.

Confirmation Class (6th-8th Grade) Starting September 11thConfirmation Class is a place where our Jr High students (6th-8th grade) make a transition from child geared Bible stories of Victory Kids towards a more adult understanding of the faith they are living.

The Class will meet twice monthly on Sunday mornings during the school year. Currently we will be meeting during the 10:45am service. The first class this year will be on September 11th. Classes will be taught by Pastor Bill Limmer and Jon Brown-Schmidt.

The lessons are presented in a 3-year revolving curriculum, so regardless of when a student joins, they receive the entire instruction. If you have any questions or would like to enroll your child, please contact Pastor Bill or Jon Brown-Schmidt.

Staff Meeting Cookout (Update) – Every 4th Thursday of the month, I meet with our staff (called, hired, and volunteer team leaders). This past Thursday we had a cookout on our new church Weber grill and we welcomed Pastor Bill and Peter to the team!

Breakfast and Bible Group – No class next Monday for Labor Day (September 5th). Will resume on September 12th.
