Victory News - A Whole New Church

Doesn't everybody spend their Sunday morning putting together new shelves before church?
We’re building a whole NEW church!

Well, not exactly, at least not according to what you’re probably thinking. We just built a new ministry center after all.

But the Holy Spirit continues to build Christ’s Church through our gospel witness. And through this gospel message and the means of God’s grace he is making new creations out of people’s hearts and lives—including our own.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17)!

You see sometimes we all need a fresh, new perspective on our lives. And what we’re going to talk about tomorrow is that when it’s Jesus who gives us a fresh perspective, he can also provide us with a whole new purpose. In this way God is always building a whole new church.

“Return home and tell how much God has done for you” (Luke 8:39).

All are invited to join me for worship Sunday morning at 9 or 10:45. Victory Kids during both.

Open Forums – Our church has been extremely blessed to have received grant request approvals so far in the amount of $85,000 to help fund a second full-time pastor position. An additional grant from our District Mission Board is being pursued with their support. Therefore the Leadership Team invites all members of our congregation to attend one of two Open Forums to hear our plans for calling a second pastor and to receive input on future staffing and ministry considerations. The first open forum will be held next Sunday after worship on Sunday, February 7th, at noon. If you’re unable to make it at that time, a second opportunity will be on Thursday evening, February 11th at 6:30 pm.

Teen Ministry – On January 16th we had a strong turnout of parents, potential leaders, and teens at an open forum to begin a youth group for 7th-12th graders. Stay tuned for more details…

Bible 101-201 Update – Happily we have 16 people in my “mix and match” Bible 101 class that takes place on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. We have one more week of Bible 101 to go. That means Bible 201 starts Tuesday, February 9th at 6:30 pm and Saturday, February 11th at 1 pm. If there’s anyone who completed Bible 101 in the past, you’re welcome to jump on board with Bible 201 on those dates. Just let me know.

Ash Wednesday Worship with Koine – On Wednesday, February 10th, at 6:30 pm we’ll be having a special service led by the band Koine. We won’t be having any other regular mid-week Lent services then until Holy Week. During Holy Week we’ll have a simple Maundy Thursday (March 24th) communion service at 6:30 pm, a Good Friday (March 25th) service at 6:30 pm, and then Easter Sunday worship at our regular Sunday morning times of 9 and 10:45.

Easter For Kids on March 12th, a special one day kids’ event to take place at our ministry center between 11am-3pm. Registration info coming soon.

Community Grand Opening on March 20th at our Sunday morning services.

Service Livestreaming – The good news is that wires have been buried under Loomis Rd. The bad news is we’re still waiting to get internet connected in our building. Coming soon…

Mission and Ministry Presentation – This Tuesday I’ll be a guest presenter at the Seminary for Home Missions day of their annual Mission and Ministry week. This means I’ll be leading a workshop called “Starting Steps In Beginning a Mission” a couple times for different groups of Seminary students.

Pastors’ Conference and Board Meetings – This past week I attended Pastors’ Conference with 30+ fellow WELS pastors in our area. I serve the conference as the chairman of our program committee. That means it’s my job to put together the conference study topics, make assignments, bring in guest presenters, and help set the day’s agenda. This past week I also got to serve the church at large in another role as a member of the Board of Directors for WELS Lutherans For Life Metro-Milwaukee. We operate crisis pregnancy counseling and resource centers in the Milwaukee area working to save lives and transforms families from at-risk to thriving. If volunteering at a place like this sounds like a way for you to perhaps serve the Lord and help people in times of crisis and need, please feel free to ask me about it.

Sharing Christ’s Victory,

Pastor Ben
