Victory News

Ice cream and conversation following Daniel Dexter's (far right) theatrical storytelling of Genesis
Last Sunday was a great day. First of all we heard a spot-on message from Vicar Caleb about the GREAT promises that God has made to us in Romans 8:26-39. In case you missed it, be sure and catch it online.

Later in the afternoon, our Leadership Team also held a call meeting for a second pastor. After prayerful consideration the Leadership Team has extended a call to Pastor Josh Odell to serve as our Associate Pastor. Pastor Josh currently serves as an associate pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Eagle River and St. John Lutheran Church of Phelps where he was assigned when he graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 2010. Please keep Pastor Josh in your prayers that the Holy Spirit guides him to go where he feels his talents can be best used to extend Christ’s kingdom and where he thinks that he can serve with maximum joy.

Finally, last evening after the call meeting, over 50 people enjoyed the storytelling presentation of Daniel Dexter as he masterfully wove together the first chapters of Genesis with the truths about our Savior in the New Testament. So much fun! Even the teens who were there had a positive reaction and we all enjoyed ice cream and a time of fellowship together in the lobby afterwards. I’d like to thank our teen group, Quest, and their leaders for organizing that and serving us with smiles on their faces!

Baptism Class – This Sunday May 1, Noon-1pm – I will be leading a one hour class for anyone who hasn’t been baptized, wants to have their kids or grandchildren baptized, or simply wants to learn more about baptism. Contact me with questions and to register for the class.

New Sermon Series Starts Sunday: The Most Important Day – Baptism is one of the greatest gifts God has given his church. It provides incredible peace and encouragement for God’s people. There is power available to us in our baptism that is vital for everyday living and, frankly, for our spiritual survival. Yet, it’s so easy for us, in the daily grind of life, to forget that this peace and power is there for us. In this series we want to gain a clear understanding of what baptism is and how we can plug into its power in our daily journey.

Soccer Camp 2016 – Parents and kids are calling it, “The best week of summer!” Visit the event page on our website for more info and registration. Scroll down and find links to volunteer as a coach or group helper, or to help with the snacks, registration, or cookout.

Baby Bottle Blessing – Sunday we will be making baby bottles available for you to take home! The funds collected in these bottles will help support pregnancy care centers operated by WELS Lutherans for Life. The money collected will go to saving lives and spreading the love of Jesus to those making pregnancy decisions. Please take a bottle and fill it with cash, change, or a check and then return it to church. If you prefer, you may put your donation in an envelope and mark it “BABY BOTTLE BLESSING”. Please fill out and return the insert to receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donation.

The Art of Marriage – I am facilitating a free, weekend marriage enrichment event here at our ministry center on Friday, May 13 from 6:30-9:00 pm and Saturday, May 14 from 9:00-4:00 pm. Victory News - Opportunities to Grow

Gospel joy in the morning
This week was filled with many blessings as a number of new ministry opportunities successfully kicked off including my Breakfast and Bible Study early Monday morning and our Victory Moms group on Thursday morning. I was overjoyed to have 12 (smiling even!) people join me at 5:45 am at the break of day as we began studying Philippians—talking about how to sustain joy in life. It was a great way to start a long, busy week. I was built up and encouraged by all who came!

Also 14 moms and twice as many kids came together to encourage each other, have fun, and play on Thursday morning. It was fun to see a parking lot made up entirely of minivans and crossovers! I was struck me just how important creating opportunities like this are when I saw one comment on Facebook that said: “Thankful today for Victory of the Lamb’s new Victory Moms group--it was the best thing I've done for myself in years.” Awesome…just awesome…and God be praised that we can use our ministry center to create experiences like that!

There were more moms and kids than could fit in one picture!
There are quite a few other new opportunities and events coming up soon so please see below and check them out! Let me know if you have any questions. Share with your friends and family members.

This Sunday we welcome one of my ministry mentors, our Mission Counselor Ed Schuppe, who will be a guest preacher. Those of you who’ve met Ed know he’ll be bringing a whole ton of energy and gospel joy! As always, everyone is invited to join us for worship Sunday morning whether at 9 or 10:45. Victory Kids during both.

Associate Pastor Call Meeting –Thanks for your attendance, questions, and feedback at our Open Forums last Sunday regarding our plans to call a second pastor. We are eager to move forward with the call process knowing it could take months depending on how quickly we find someone who will accept our call. Thus we’ve set next Sunday, April 24th, as our first call meeting where our Leadership Team meets with a representative of our Southeastern Wisconsin District to prayerfully call a second pastor. See the attached FAQ document (same as last week) for a few brief answers to a lot of the questions we have received about the process of calling our second pastor. Please feel free as always to reach out to anyone on the Leadership Team with questions.

Victory News - Great Things Going On!

Over 450 people celebrated Christ's victory with us on Easter Sunday...God be praised!
First of all, I want to thank all of you who gave special gifts to help me and Sarah get away last week to attend my “Renewed in Grace” 10 year retreat in San Antonio. Your gifts of love enabled us to really enjoy this special time away. And your generosity also allowed us to be generous in picking up the tab for a couple meals we enjoyed with friends on the Riverwalk in between study sessions where we grew together in God’s grace through studying Scripture together. We spoke highly of you and your very evident love for your pastor and his family!

All in all, despite Sarah and I both getting the respiratory version of influenza while down there, it was really great to get away and reconnect with classmates I haven’t seen in almost a decade—friends from all over the country and beyond. It’s amazing that this year marks ten years for me being a pastor, but by God’s grace I pray He’ll supply me with the strength to carry on for the next ten. God knows how much I need it because the number of new people the last couple weeks to follow up with is incredible!

In recounting among friends and former classmates the joys and sorrows of a decade of ministry, I was keenly reminded just how much credit and praise belongs to God for all the blessings I have experienced here as the pastor of our church—Victory of the Lamb. Our church is so special and unique. I’m also reminded of something I read a couple years ago: “We tend to overestimate what we can accomplish in a year, but we tend to underestimate what God can accomplish through us in ten.” To God be the glory!

There are a lot of new ministry opportunities coming up soon so please see below and check them out! I also look forward to continuing our “Greatness” series this coming Sunday based on Romans 8 and our gracious God. And as always, everyone is invited to join us for worship Sunday morning whether at 9 or 10:45. Victory Kids during both.

Open Forum This Sunday @Noon –Join me this Sunday after the second service at noon if you’re interested in learning more about our plans to call a second pastor or if you have any questions about the process.
